FORKS, WA WAS A BLOODY WASTE OF TIME. SORRY TWILIGHT FANS.

On our way out of the Lake Quinault area we found out that Forks, WA was only a hour or so away, so we decided to go and see the town since it was the the place where events from the Twilight series were supposed to have taken place. Our first stop was at the Chamber of Commerce which is also where you can pick up a map of  the locations and points of interest that had been portrayed in the book.

Outside were two red trucks, (shown in the picture) the truck on the left is the year, make and model of the one described in the book. The truck on the right is the make and model of the one used in the movie.

I was excited to see all the places I had read about in the series, because I loved the books. As we started into town to see the sights my heart started sinking as I noticed (how can I say this without sounding or being offensive)hmmm, well the town was like driving into a trailer trash area.  Sorry, but all of us felt the same way. We even talked about why they would allow this to happen when it could have been a great tourist town. We wanted to stop and get some lunch, we decided we could have a 'Bella Burger, with a side of french fries with a nice thick blood to dip them into. Maybe have a ice cold bloody drink with a scoop of frozen blood for dessert. Unfortunately, the only place we could find that looked decent was a Subway inside of a gas station, and they didn't have any place to sit down inside. They had two little tables outside. IT WAS RAINING! Duh. Isn't this suppose to have the most rain, or no sun for the most amount of days in the country? Why put two tables OUTSIDE? So we had to eat inside the truck.

This is the High School, but they are building a new one, so this is the entrance to the one from the book. They are trying to keep it for the tours.

This is supposed to be the house where Bella and her father lived. Notice the sign in the front yard that says 'The Swans'. We drove by where Edward lived and I couldn't even bring myself to take a picture of it. It is not far from here, it is a bed and breakfast. It didn't remind me of anything that was decribed in the book. It is in the middle of town! Not even in a wooded area.
I can't even tell you how disappointed we all were, and how we felt like we had wasted our time and gas going there. I'm sorry folks but it was not worth the trip.

  3. Rats! I am so sorry to hear that Forks was a Twilight bummer. Does this mean you didn't run into Edward or Jacob ( -:

  4. No, didn't see anyone! We kept trying to look to find someone of sorts, but no. I still love the books. (And still on the Edward team)

  5. Funny how different a movie can portray a town! Thanks for linking up to the Share the Love party!

  6. Based upon certain things she says in the books, I wonder how much time SM actually spent on the Peninsula. I can't imagine why, for example, with her characters going back and forth to Port Angeles, Crescent Lake plays no part. Did you drive along it on your visit? It's fantastic, and my parents certainly would not have let my brothers and me make that drive when we were in high school! I visited Forks twice last summer whilst on other road trips. I didn't try to find the "locations," but did get a kick out of the mist in the distance as I drew nearer to Forks...and I stopped at Thriftway too. They only had the more bulbous truck in the lot of the visitors center last summer.

Thank you for stopping by my blog & saying hello!

  7. hmmmm...further proof of the talent that a writer possesses and that our imaginations are always better than reality. :)

  8. Haha, I am dying at this post (and your title for the FTLOB hop). I am not a Twilight Fan, though, so I think I think it is extra funny. Pretty cool ya'll stopped by there though. Sorry it was disappoint! :)

  9. That sucks! Though I was disappointed between the book and the movies. I had a lot of things wrong in my mind, compared to the movies. I imagined Edward to be way hotter than Rob, sorry if that offends anyone, but he's not all that hot. Little details they left out that made me cry or laugh in the books, weren't there in the movies. I guess we should all just stick with the books and our imaginations, then we can be disappointed. haha. Have a great weekend! ♥ BJ

  10. That is a shame the town doesn't take more advantage of their claim to fame-- could be a big economy boost.

visiting from the Thursday Stroll hop! If you like books, come visit my bookish blog!

  11. I agree that it could be a huge boost in the economy if the town bothered to capaolize on it. I was never a fan of the Twilight books. (More of a Harry Potter nerd myself) but I could understand the disapointment. :( It's like going to "Hogworts" only to find out it's just a ride, or traveling to London, excited to see Abby Road and you just come to....a crosswalk.

  12. Well, shoot! It seemed like a good idea at the time, huh? I hate letdowns like that. I loved both Harry Potter and the Twilight series. It's such a lovely phenomenon (sp?)to have adults and children worldwide reading the same book at the same time.

  13. Haven't read the books but when we drove through last summer we just saw some handmade signs saying things like "Bella shops here!" and "Bella eats here!" and "Look out for Edward!"
